Langkawi Eco Film Fest (LEFF) is an annual community festival organized by Ecoknights which made its debut on 2014. The aim of LEFF is to engage and to promote environmental awareness among residents in Langkawi to adopt a sustainable lifestyle through a series of activities such as film screening, workshops and exhibitions.
In 2015, the 2nd Langkawi Eco Film Fest has been held on 6-7 November 2015 in Frangipani Langkawi and Kompleks Sukan Langkawi respectively.
The purpose of Community Dialogue is to promote zero plastic usage in Langkawi in the period of five years (2016-2020) among the local and business communities through strategic forums and panel discussions. Similar to last year, in 2015 there were 44 participants from 22 organisations attended the dialogue. In the first session environmental issues related to plastic bags are presented by Yasmin Rasyid from EcoKnights, En. Anthony Wong (CEO Frangipani Langkawi), Datuk Kamarulzaman Ghani (Geopark Langkawi representative) and En. Saiful Redzuan (Representative of SW Corp) . Plastic bag issues have been addressed, discussed and ultimately came out with potential solutions in the second session. At the end of the activity, the Kedah State Exco, YB Dato Leong Yong Kong has shared his opinions and experiences with sustainable lifestyle.
The Langkawi Eco Film Festival has took place in Kompleks Sukan Langkawi on 7th November (Saturday). The event began with exhibitions by up to 24 NGOS and green enterprises, the organizations have showcased their community projects, green products and services. Throughout the whole day, up to 10 films has been screened each session has proceed with Q & A and talk session. Aside of that, the public also took part in other attractive activities such as Eco-workshops conducted by several organisations, artwork and colouring activity by Langkawi Artist Visual Art Association (LAVAA). These activities has further enhanced the community engagement with various environmental organisations. On top of that, registered participants are entitled for a chance in lucky draw, which the prizes include a sunset cruise by Tropical Charters, composting bins, ecoknights T-shirts, Green Hijab and Eco-enzyme. The one-day-event has attracted up to 500 registered participants.
The closing ceremony of LEFF took place in 4:00pm by Kedah Chief Minister, Dato' Seri Mukhriz bin Mahathir, along with Kedah State Exco, YB Dato Leong Yong Kong and officers. After a speech by Dato' Seri Mukhriz and Pn. Yasmin, the ceremony is followed by a dinner with Chief Minister. The screening session and NGO exhibition were resumed at 6 pm and the event was officially ended at 10 pm.
